Negative Impact of Cuts and Closures in School Library

It seems as though the value of a library especially in public schools are diminishing each day amongst legislatures. Surprisingly cuts are being made in large cities such as New York and Los Angeles. Qualified candidates aren't being hired due to financial cuts across the board and instead parents and volunteers operating libraries. In the LA district, most school libraries are staffed by aides. The article states that there should be a qualified personnel to help guide students. School library are valuable for schools in low-income families considering it is dangerous for them to travel to public libraries. Another issue is that when budget cuts go forth library aides are up against school nurses, and of course people choose nurses of library aides.

Opinion:
This article is well written and really shows how people do not se importance of librarians. It is important to have a skilled person working with students along with assistants. There is so much value to have a professional that can guide students with reading level. It saddens my heart that libraries are being closed due to funding and legislatures not caring.
